E-mail is best

No doubt about it, for general correspondence, e-mail is the best method to communicate with Sofa Ink Quarterly.

We offer two key points about our e-mail philosophy; which also apply to other methods.

1. E-mail is convenient but not by nature immediate. Just because it can faciliate near instant communiction doesn't mean it should. Communication technology (phones, letters, e-mail, IM) are all designed for the convenience of the user not to become their masters. In other words, we will respond in a timely manner but not immediately.

2. Communication is a two-party arrangement. If you try to contact us fifteen times in four days (don't laugh it happens fairly often), don't expect us to answer all fifteen individually. In fact, we'll probably end up deciding that no matter how good your writing, art, or business service, we're not interested in a relationship that is such high maintenance.

Now for our confession. We're not always perfect on any communication method. If you send us an e-mail, letter, or leave a voicemail and you do not receive a response within two weeks, please send a brief inquiry. Hopefully we can take out this paragraph soon but not yet.

Submissions

Authors

1. We seek written material of 7,500 words or less.

2. All writing must be original.

3. We accept fiction, poetry, and nonfiction (from any genre) for adults and teens that meets the following criteria:

a. No swearing (in any language)

b. No profaning deity (no casual mention of any deity for emotional emphasis)

c. No explicit sex

d. No explicit gore or gratuitous violence

e. Story must have a positive ending

4. The manuscript should be double-spaced.

We prefer no more than 5 poems at one time. We pay $5 + three contributor copies. Author photos and brief bios are included.

Artists

We like to feature one artist per issue. Where possible, that includes a color cover.

Art does not have to be previously unpublished but the artist must own the copyright and be free to publish with us.

Artists are paid $30 for 6-8 pieces of interior art and $10 for cover art. They also recieve biographical exposure similar to writers.
